Surrounded by her loving daughters, Joan Elizabeth Jenkinson (née Anderson), passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in her retirement home in Guelph, Ontario. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lifelong curiosity.
Born on Christmas Day in 1943, Joan grew up in the scenic countryside near Fenelon Falls. After graduating high school, she pursued her post-secondary studies at the MacDonald Institute at the University of Guelph, where she became a proud Mac ’66 graduate. This was a pivotal chapter in her life where she met her future husband and lifelong partner, Mike Jenkinson.
Joan brought her vibrant energy and sharp wit with her wherever she went. She was known for her infectious sense of humour, outgoing personality, and a relentless curiosity about the world around her. Her contagious giggle could instantly light up a room, bringing immediate joy to everyone around her. She was a fearless adventurer at heart, travelling to many different continents and immersing herself in diverse cultures. In her later years, when she could no longer travel herself, she lived vicariously through the travels of her family, listening to their stories and seeing their pictures with the same awe and excitement she felt on her own journeys.
Closer to home, Joan lived an exceptionally active social life. She loved curling, playing bridge, and deeply enjoyed the arts. She was a gifted hostess and master planner of lively dinner parties, where her creativity in the kitchen shone through in the wonderful meals shared with loved ones. Joan also took great joy in welcoming friends and extended family for weekend visits.
Throughout her life, Joan was deeply committed to giving back and contributing to her community through many volunteer roles. She was especially active in her faith community at Trinity United Church, where she dedicated much of her time and energy. A natural guide and organizer, she successfully held several positions both before and after raising her daughters, leaving a lasting impact on the organizations and people she touched.
Above all else, Joan was deeply devoted to her family. She spent countless hours enthusiastically supporting her daughters in many activities as they grew up. She was an immensely proud grandmother to her four grandchildren and took great delight in her interactions with them, whether it was in person, virtually, or over the phone. She was always deeply interested in all their milestones and adventures, forever listening with love, pride, and genuine excitement.
Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband, Mike Jenkinson; her parents, Ivan and Thelma Anderson; her brother Wayne Anderson; and her sister, Janice Gosselin (née Anderson). She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kelly and Karla; Karla’s husband, Adam McInnis; and her cherished grandchildren, Jenna and Andrew Gordon, and Jack and Sarah McInnis.
Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home. A private interment of Joan’s ashes will take place at a later date at the Fenelon Falls Cemetery.
Condolences can be made on Joan's memorial page.
