Predeceased by his parents, Richard (Dick) and Muriel Farnworth of Guelph and the love of his life for 62 years, Alice Farnworth (Spikman)
Beloved father to Carla (Richard) Warnholtz, RJ (Sarah) Farnworth and DJ (Louise) Farnworth. Proud Gramps to Matthew (Hanna), Jonathan (Stacey), Alysha (Trevor), Timothy (Victoria), Hannah, Weston, Elliot and Owen. Devoted Great Gramps to Levi, Micah, Eden, Hezekiah, Lyla, Willem Henrik and Vienna. His family was his pride and joy.
He will be missed by many extended family and friends.
John was born and raised in Guelph. He attended Victory Public school and GCVI.
He worked for Fiberglass before joining his father in business to create Farnworth Insurance. Later, he merged with two other Guelph businessmen to form ‘Daly, Farnworth, McGregor Insurance’, which evolved into Precept Insurance years later.
He loved God with his whole heart and was a solid member of the church community.
He had a passion for sports. He played and loved football, golf and baseball but his biggest devotion was to hockey. When he wasn’t playing himself, he was coaching his sons, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play or bantering with them all about the pro teams. Then, he combined his love for God with his love for hockey and became chaplain of the Guelph Storm and the Listowel Cyclones as part of Hockey Ministries.
John’s favourite place was outdoors. He spent many summers all through his life going to camps as a camper, counsellor, horse staff, lifeguard and hockey coach. He and Alice spent over 40 years living on a small farm outside Guelph. He couldn’t be happier on a horse or on his lawn tractor!
A big man, with a big voice and a loving heart, he will be greatly missed. Knowing he is now with his Saviour and seeing his bride again makes the pain a little less.
Until we meet again.
A huge thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Groves Hospital in Fergus and to everyone at Hospice Wellington for their exceptional care.
Visitation for John will be held on Thursday July 31 from 11am - 1pm
