John MacInnes

Toes no longer tap the beat.

Music awaits him way off yonder

Where lost family and friends meet.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John A. MacInnes, on July 19, 2026. Born in Baddeck, Cape Breton Island, NS in 1931, he lived and worked across the provinces and finally landed in Guelph in 1972. Through the years, he was known in many ways: John, Jackie, Corkie, Johnnie, Jack, Dad, Uncle, Grandpa and Great Grandpa.

That small boy must have dreamed of travelling. He crisscrossed Canada for work and leisure, travelled through the USA, traced his roots through Scotland, enjoyed a sunny resort in Cuba, and made the long journey to New Zealand. Off-highway earth-moving trucks and remote locations filled his working years. He spent his life working for Blackwood Hodge, Euclid White Motors, then VME, until his retirement.

Family and friends knew him as a fiddler, his bow dancing across the strings, with toes tapping out the beat, joined by family and friends playing piano and guitar, and singing.

John is survived by his wife Evelyn Roth-MacInnes, together almost 39 years, and his children from his first marriage: Myles (Cheryl), Julie, Jane (Gary), Paula, Pamela, Arthur; grandchildren John (Shelley), Katrina (Thorsten), Tom (Laura), Kalie (Michael), Emily (Mark), Megan (Kendall), Cameron (Lauren), Daniel (Hailey),

Carson, Malcolm (Amanda), Olivia (Gavin), Lillian (George); and 12 greatgrandchildren, soon to be 13. Predeceased by his young son Donald (1966), grandson Hayden (2020), brother Donnie, and his parents Donald & Annie (Watson) MacInnes.

A celebration of life will be planned for a future date. Interment will take place later in Baddeck. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local food bank
