

Jonathon (Jono) was the beloved son of Barb Sajkowski and the late John Carreiro (2024). Adored husband to Ashlee Smith, admired brother of Jodi Carreiro (Brandon), dear son-in-law of Chris and Sophie Smith. Cherished grandson of Barb and the late Ollie Sajkowski and predeceased by his grandparents Jose and Lourdes Carreiro. Best friend to Pawel Sienkowski. He will be deeply missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and colleagues.
Jono was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jono’s greatest joys came from family, friends, and most of all, sports. From a young age, he excelled at any sport he tried and his love for sports grew and grew. Many summers were spent at the baseball diamond before he found his passion. His football journey started with the Guelph Bears and his high school football team, St. James Lions, where he was a force to be reckoned with. His family and friends never missed a game and were so proud to be cheering him on from the stands.
His football career continued as he joined the Twin Cities Predators, where he went on to be one of the best in Ontario Football and received countless accolades and awards for his accomplishments. He was a dedicated Team Captain and outstanding player as the 3-time defensive point leader. His reputation preceded him and his achievements were recognized when was invited to the Toronto Regional Combine. He will be remembered for being the best on, and off the field.
He cherished the time he spent with his friends, finding great fun and happiness in their company. Their lives were brighter having known him and his memory will always live on in their hearts.
Jono loved to spend time playing a round of golf with his friends, tending to his garden and fish, and watching the Packers. He had a strong work ethic and took great pride in his work and colleagues at COBI.
He was excited to get promoted from dog dad to girl dad. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience for his baby girl. His daughter will always remember him through the many memories shared by those who loved him.
Donations can be made in his name to the Children’s Foundation’s Free To Grow Program to provide children and youth in Guelph access to sports and mental health counselling.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Hart Chapel (1099 Gordon St. Guelph) on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Saint Joseph's Church (409 Paisley Rd, Guelph). Reception to follow at the Guelph Legion (branch 234 – 57 Watson Parkway South, Guelph).
