It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marianna Walczak on May 27, 2026, at Guelph General Hospital at the age of 92. We are profoundly comforted by our faith that Marianna is now with God in eternal happiness.
Loving wife to the late Jerzy Mieczysław Walczak. Beloved mother to Małgorzata Dorota Łaszczuk. Beloved mother-in-law to Krzysztof Łaszczuk. Cherished babcia to Kasia (Samuel Ian Hanig) Łaszczuk, Agnieszka Łaszczuk, Michał Łaszczuk, and Ania Łaszczuk. Adored prababcia to Mila Rose Hanig. Dear sister to Wiesława (Longin) Grochowska. She will be missed by all her friends and extended family.
Marianna (nee Sołowiejko) was born in the village of Zarzecz Łukowski on May 6, 1934, to father Cyprian and mother Filomena (nee Czerniewicz). Following the Second World War, at the age of 13, she moved to Brochów near Wrocław to live with her aunt. Marianna grew up with a love of both the countryside and city life and pursued a career in accounting, working at a bank and later a construction company, responsible for numerous notable buildings built in Wrocław in the 1970s and 1980s. She met her dear husband, Jerzy, in her teens and got married in Zarzecz Łukowski in 1955. Marianna and Jerzy moved to an apartment on Szewska Street right in the historic centre of Wrocław, and her daughter, Małgorzata, was born in 1962. Following Malgorzata’s move to Canada in 1989, she began living with her daughter and son-in-law for half the year, helping to raise her grandchildren in Guelph. Marianna became a Canadian citizen and continued to split her time between Poland and Canada. Later on, Marianna also had the blessing of spending time with her great-granddaughter, Mila.
Marianna had a profound interest in fine art, literature, music, and gardening. She had a large collection of art that adorns her apartment in Wrocław and home in Guelph, and this is a strong testament to Marianna’s love of art and culture. She spent many of her summers in her village of Zarzecz Łukowski and loved to travel across Europe and Canada with her family. Marianna was an avid hiker and often explored the Sudety Mountains near Wrocław and countless other trails across Poland and Canada. Her devotion and faith were inspirational; she was dedicated to her parishes of the Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in Wrocław and Sacred Heart Church in Guelph. Marianna’s faith guided her always through life and formed her love, selfless dedication, and never-ending joy, living the way of Christ. She has had a profound impact on her loved ones in Poland and Canada, bringing God to so many people through her love. Marianna’s ashes will be brought to Poland to be buried with her husband, Jerzy, in Wrocław.
