She will also be remembered by Domenic Iafrate, father of her grandchildren Daniel and Marcus.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Attilio Petricca, Yolanda Mora and Vincenza Tersigni. She is survived by her sister-in-law’s, Gina Di Pede and Maria Di Pede and by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy.
Restituta (Tina) was the daughter of the late Maria Luigia and Antonio Petricca of Italy. Born and raised in Sora, Frosinone, Italy, Tina later made the journey to Canada as a young adult, where she and her husband built a new life while holding close the traditions, religious faith and values of their Italian heritage. On February 9th, 1955, she arrived at Pier 21, Halifax, Canada aboard the SS Queen Frederica, beginning an important new chapter of her life.
Tina was a woman of deep faith who made prayer an important part of her daily life. She routinely prayed the Rosary each day and shared her faith with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A gifted and dedicated seamstress employed at John Rennie making men’s dress shirts for many years, Tina also brought her talent and creativity into every part of her life. Her love of knitting, fine lace crochet, and sewing became a beautiful expression of her love for her family. With her skilled hands, she lovingly created dresses, aprons, bibs, pajamas, and other countless treasured pieces for those she loved.
She loved her vegetable garden and flowers. Each spring, bringing her carefully stored geraniums back to life brought a smile to her face. Her beautiful front porch overflowing with flowers was admired by many and reflected the love and care she put into her home.
Above all, Tina was a devoted family woman. She treasured family gatherings and took great joy in bringing everyone together around her table to savour traditional dishes and baking. She would cook up a storm, finding her greatest happiness in seeing her family gathered.
For the last six years of her life, our mother was cared for at home. The family will always remember the day we were gathered around my mom’s kitchen table searching for a live-in caregiver and received a call from a potential candidate. When asked her name, she replied, “Madonna Veloria.” The three siblings looked at one another, feeling in that moment that their mother had received her saving grace. What began as a search for a caregiver became a beautiful six-year relationship filled with devotion, compassion, and love.
Madonna (Donna) cared for ‘mamma’ with unwavering dedication and showed her devoted love every day. She became part of the family and brought comfort, companionship, and care to ‘mamma’ throughout these final years. The family will forever be grateful for the love she gave their mother and for the special place she holds in their family. Our mom loved Donna dearly, like a daughter, and knowing she was always there brought us comfort and peace.
Tina’s faith, generosity, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain a lasting part of her legacy. The love she poured into her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will continue through the prayers, traditions, recipes, and handmade treasures she leaves behind.
Special thank you to the many doctors, healthcare professionals and PSWs who cared for our mom with such kindness and compassion. We are truly grateful to you.
Tina will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
