It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of a beloved father, son, brother and friend, Scott Joseph Franceschini, at the age of 54. He passed away suddenly on March 7, 2025 at his home in Woodstock.
Scott left us too soon, but his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, and love.
Born in Guelph on October 20, 1970, to Anthony and Patricia Franceschini, Scott was an important part of our close-knit family - a loving son, a devoted brother to Anne Haller and Marcia Cho, and a cherished father to Jarrod and Keira. He will be missed by his brothers-in-law John Haller and Jason Cho, his nephews and nieces, Lian and Erica Cho, and Sarah and Jeremy Haller as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. His sense of humor, warmth, and quiet strength were a constant source of comfort and joy to all who knew him. Family and friends alike knew that Scott was someone who you could count on.
As a child, Scott enjoyed playing baseball and hockey. In fact, he continued to play both of these sports into adulthood. His love for life extended to his favorite pastime - fishing. There was no place Scott would rather be than on the water, casting his line and sharing a peaceful moment with those he loved especially during the annual fall fishing trip organized by his father. Many summers were spent as a family hauling our grandmother’s trailer to whatever vacation destination our parents had planned. Riding with the windows down and music playing on the 8-track player as we 3 children sat in the back seat on these summertime excursions stand out as some of the happiest times together. Despite his quiet nature, Scott liked his music loud and often played his favourite rock tunes at high volumes in the house. Scott was also a simple man. His favourite foods were his mom’s pasta bolognese and chocolate cake. Like his dad, Scott liked a good laugh and could be found at family gatherings bonding with his father over a funny video or joke.
Scott was a devoted father to both of his children. Jarrod and Keira were the pride and joy of Scott and his former spouse and cherished friend, Vicki. He did his best to raise them with love, patience, wisdom and integrity. In fact, both of his children followed in his footsteps and picked up a passion for the game of hockey playing as goalies for their respective hockey teams. He even extended his love for hockey by volunteering his time to coach his daughter’s hockey team. These were times he truly enjoyed.
Scott was a dedicated employee of Toyota for 27 years. He was well respected by the many people that he worked with. During a recent stay in hospital, Scott was cheered up by visits from some of his Toyota friends and he was very grateful for this. We were humbled to learn that the Toyota flag was flown at half-mast in honour of his long service and dedication to his job.
A Celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
In Memoriam, by William Malone (Uncle to Scott):
We shall remember this day
Long into the springtime,
When the flowers bloom and children sing
We shall remember him,
We shall remember him,
We shall remember.
Even when the tears have passed,
When twilight comes with stories told,
The dream of Scott
Will bring pleasant sleep,
We shall remember him,
We shall remember him,
We shall remember.
When the sound of bells
In old, church towers,
Rings aloud for a fleeting soul,
We shall remember you, Scott,
We shall remember you,
We shall remember.
