Sherry Anne Bender (née Mugford) passed on July 6th, 2026, peacefully, with family by her side. Born to Rose and James Mugford on September 18th, 1952, Sherry grew up in Guelph as one of seven siblings. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and a true blue friend.
Sherry met and married her husband, Paul James Bender, in 1976, and together they raised their 2 children, Heidi and Shawn. Many treasured memories were made cheering at the local hockey rink, hosting family and friends at the backyard pool, taking family vacations together, and celebrating most special occasions with a full house and a turkey dinner.
Sherry loved (to win at) a good game of bid euchre, an adventure to the casino with friends, and the thrill of yelling “Bingo!”. She was truly special, and just the right amount of sassy. Her cherished grandchildren, Briar Rose and Griffin James, delighted in her sense of humour, and loved their visits to Gramma’s house.
Sherry was predeceased by her parents, Rose and James, and her siblings, Rosemary, John, Marty, and Peter. She is survived by her husband Paul, her children, Heidi (Matthew) and Shawn, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and life-long friends who dearly loved her.
The Bender family is grateful to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre and to Hospice Wellington, who provided Sherry with top notch treatment and cared for her so tenderly during her battle and final days. And now she flies with butterflies…
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 16th from 5pm-8pm at Spring Mill Distillery (43 Arthur St S, Guelph, ON N1E 0P9). Well wishes only, please.
