She leaves us with countless memories of warmth, goodness, and love, and we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her husband and lifelong dance partner, Rino.
Shirley was the loving mother of Judy, Dino (Heather), and Rick (Michelle). She was so proud of her grandchildren Jason (Jill), Jeffrey (Marta), Steven, Alexzandra, and Victoria. She also delighted in her great-grandchildren Ashlynn, Claire, Myah, Hailynn, and Joey. Shirley will be deeply missed by her sisters Joan (Ken) and Marlene and her brother Byron (Anne) and is predeceased by her brother Ralph (Kathy).
Shirley began her career in the early ’70s at the medical offices of Drs. Embree, Brix, Hubband, and Tovell, where she worked for many years and eventually became office manager, respected for her kindness and professionalism. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering for many years at St. John’s Parish, Ontario Christian Gleaners, and St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph.
Shirley and Rino’s love story began on a dance floor and their rhythm together never faded. They were true partners in life, hosting countless gatherings at their home where family and friends came together to celebrate life’s milestones, big and small. Shirley had a special gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
Shirley was a curious and adventurous soul who was devoted to reading, writing letters, traveling, and long walks, and she cared deeply for the world around her. She taught us to live with kindness and to notice the beauty in everyday life, and her gentle, generous spirit will remain with us always.
Visitation will be held at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Hart Chapel (1099 Gordon St. Guelph) on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 1-3 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be in the chapel on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 10 am followed by a reception.
In honour of Shirley’s charitable heart, we ask that donations be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada, or a charity of your choice.
