Teresa Marthaler

It is with great sadness that the family of Teresa Marthaler announces her peaceful passing on July 24, 2026 at Hospice Wellington, surrounded by family, following a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born in Belsito, Italy, she remained deeply proud of her Italian heritage throughout her life. Her homeland, traditions, and values were always close to her heart and were reflected in the importance she placed on family, hard work, and caring for others.

She was a devoted wife, mother, nanna, sister, aunt, cousin and confidant, whose family was at the centre of her life. She showed her love through her actions, her strength, her work ethic and her constant willingness to support those around her. Her family could always depend on her, and the lessons and traditions she passed down will continue for generations. She faced life’s challenges with stubborn determination, remarkable strength and unwavering perseverance.

Teresa had a genuine love of helping people, it was simply a part of who she was, engrained from an early age when she would help her parents with tasks far beyond her years. Her kindness extended far beyond her immediate family, and she gave her time, care, and support freely. Throughout her careers in banking and in creating her family’s garden centre with her husband, she consistently gave her time and attention to her customers, not only with regards to their banking or gardening questions but also listening to all aspects of their lives and offering them support. She devoted much of her adult life to growing Brock Road Nursery, a true family business where it was common to see her children or grandchildren, even in strollers or on the sand pile, spending much of the day. You would find Teresa amongst the plants, particularly the annuals, dead-heading flowers, watering or re-organizing, often until sundown. She prioritized providing great customer service and carrying quality products, values that provide guidance 35 years later as the next generations carries on her legacy.

Throughout her illness, she demonstrated remarkable strength and determination. She will be remembered for the life she lived, the love she gave, the meals she shared, the people she helped, and the lasting impact she had on those who knew her.

She will be lovingly remembered by Fritz Marthaler, her beloved husband of 48 years, her children Tania (Alex Wallace), Bryan (Josephine Anderson), and Andre (Melissa MacKinnon-Marthaler). She was the loving Nanna to Emma, Fraser, Freja, Adler and Eloise. Predeceased by her parents Giovanni and Maria Carpino, brother Frank Carpino and cousin Bernardo Carpino. Survived by her sister-in-law May-Lis Carpino, brother Ross Carpino (Debbie), sister Mirella Reynen (Rick), and sister Lina Carpino (Joe Filigno). She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank the Hematology and Oncology Day Services team at Juravinski Cancer Centre for their extensive care, the doctors and nurses at Guelph General Hospital for their prolonged care and the volunteers and staff at Hospice Wellington for their compassionate care and creating special moments in her final days. The family would also like to thank the selfless blood donors who give blood and allowed her to extend her life despite her illness, allowing her to meet grandchildren she never would have been able to see and experience milestone events she never would have been able to attend.

A visitation will be held at Gilbert MacIntryre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church, 175 Emma St., Guelph on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Committal service at Marymount Cemetery immediately following mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Wellington, Guelph General Hospital, Juravinski Cancer Centre or Canadian Blood Services in her memory.

She will be deeply missed and always remembered.
