

Born in Windsor, Nova Scotia he went to school in Monton and then went on to Mount Allison where he earned his BA, BEd and then on to Pinehill where he earned his MDiv. He answered a lifelong calling to ministry and served congregations in River Hebert, Minto, Middleton, Windsor, New Glasgow and Bermuda. He was ordained in 1959 and dedicated his life to faith, service and community.
In 1959, he married the love of his life, Vera and together they shared 66 devoted years of marriage. He deeply cherished his family and took great pride in the life they built together.
Outside of his ministry, he had a passion for cars, woodworking, camping and travelling. He also had a strong interest in his Scottish heritage, which remained meaningful to him throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Dr. Frank and Margaret Archibald.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Vera and sons Allan (Joanne), Argyle and Frank (Abbie), Timberlea. His grandchildren Katie (Kirk), Robert (Ben), Jordan (Corey), Jacob (Anna) and Jenny (Payton) and his great-grandchildren Ellie and Charlotte, sister Pat (Garry) Condon.
Fred will be remembered for his quiet dedication, steady faith, love of learning and deep commitment to both family and service. His legacy lives on in the many lives he guided, supported and inspired.
A funeral service will be held on Monday December 22, 2025 at Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Avenue, Halifax, NS at 2:00 pm.
