It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Aileen (“Tanty”) on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 with her family by her side.
Born on January 24, 1917 in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Mary Magdalene (Hanlon) Mullane.
Aileen is survived by her sister Catherine V. Hill, son-in-law Don Waller, grand-daughter Aileen Waller-Hebb (Bruce), grandson Rod Waller, great-grandchildren Andrew and Sarah Hebb; nieces Joan Carroll, Maureen Dean (Alec); Cathy Crosby, and Jackie Yates (Jamie); nephew John Mullane; great-nieces Michelle Yates and Erin MacPherson (Hector); great-nephews Charles Crosby (Tanis) and Colin Dean; great-great grand nephews Liam and Patrick Crosby and Callum MacPherson, and great-great grand niece Lily MacPherson.
Aileen was predeceased by her loving husband Raymond (“Robie”) Robichaud, beloved daughter Elizabeth (“Betty”) Waller, brother John Mullane and his wife Evelyn, sister Veronica Gillis and her husband John, brother-in-law Joseph Hill, and Rod's partner Keltie Lewis.
Aileen trained in nursing and volunteered with the Red Cross. She found great reward working with War Brides as they arrived in Canada at Pier 21. She later worked for the Red Cross Blood Clinic and in a dental office.
As Robie’s career took them across Canada, Aileen enjoyed living and entertaining in various cities including Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Fredericton and Halifax.
Tanty recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends. She was most proud of her family. She and Robie were fixtures at all of her great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Tanty was a generous soul who left a lasting impression on all whom she met and those who knew her. She was truly one of a kind and leaves a hole in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, Tuesday May 2 from 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held May 3, 11am at JA Snow Funeral Home.
