

NICOLLE, Albert Walter – 82, of Halifax, NS passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2012, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Walter and Frances (Dominix) Nicolle. Albert is survived by his wife Marion (Irving) and children Barry Nicolle (Eunice) of Dartmouth, Thomas Nicolle of Montreal, Quebec, Christine Nicolle (Norm Hare) of Guelph, Ontario and Robert Nicolle of St. Georges , Bermuda; grandchildren Colin and Abigail Nicolle of Halifax, and Miriam Williams of Boutiliers Point; brothers Donald Nicolle of Ottawa, Ontario and Gerald Nicolle of Moncton, New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his sisters Elsie Ayers of Halifax and Marie MacDonald of Windsor.
Albert was an active leader and participant in the Halifax business community for many years during his working career in the banking and financial services industry until his retirement from Canada Trust in 1986. He was always generous with his time and talents, working with service and charitable organizations, including the Rotary Club and the Arthritis Society of Canada. Albert was also an active participant for many years in Fairview United Church where he was involved in the Parent and Tot program, the Seniors Dinners and many other church programs. In addition, Al served several terms on the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission and was active in local and provincial politics. When time and weather permitted, Albert could always be found on the courses of Ashburn Golf and Country Club, always striving to improve his game and always enjoying the effort, regardless of the outcome! Al was also a devoted dog owner, and took great pride and joy in their beloved Samoyed, Sofi, on their daily walks through the neighbourhood. As a loving and devoted husband, as a caring and supportive father, as a wise and generous grandfather and as a loyal and committed friend, Albert will be missed by all of those whose lives he was part of and to whom he meant so much. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at JA Snow funeral home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. A memorial service and reception will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the same location.
