Manuel, Ann Louise “Annie” (nee Dowding) 64, of Halifax passed away peacefully, in the arms of loving family, on January 1, 2017 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Infirmary site, Halifax. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of the late Bordon Pye and Constance (Castle) Dowding, growing up in Ecum Secum and Cole Harbour.
Annie took great pride in her family, and was an especially proud “Nanny” to her grandsons. Though Annie only had one biological child, she was a “second mother” to many of the neighbourhood kids, and nieces, Dana and Jennifer.
She had spent summers camping seasonally in several campgrounds, most recently The Plantation in Berwick where she made many wonderful “trailerhood” friends. Annie was known to be the life of a party and had an amazing, infectious belly laugh that brought joy to all those who met her. Annie was known to make friends everywhere she went – even in hospital (Go Team Fluffy!).
She was very loved, especially by her late husband and travelled with him in later years. They lived in Cape Breton, Pictou, Yarmouth, and even Bermuda for a few years but Ingramport, NS was always “Home Base”.
She remains beloved and cherished; and will be sorrowfully missed by: her son, Scott (Kristina) and grandsons Owen and Bentley, all of Elmsdale; brothers, Edward (Louise) Dowding, Halifax; Tink (Louise) Dowding, Dartmouth; Timothy (Kim) Dowding, Dartmouth; James (Darlene) Dowding, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Cora Lee Dowding, East New Annan; brother-in-law, Bill (Nancy) Manuel, Dartmouth; brother-in-law, Don Lindsay, Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Annie was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, best friend and love of her life, Earl; step-father, Lionel Dowding; brothers, Joey and Derek Dowding, and sister-in-law, Cecilia “Cecile” Lindsay.
The family would like to extend a sincere, heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff on 8.3, especially Maria, Jackie, Gwen, Kelly, and Celine for their amazing care and compassion during the most difficult week of our lives.
A Celebration of Life for Annie will be held on Friday January 6, 2017 at J. A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, at 2:00 PM, There will be no visitation by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Canadian Liver Foundation, or to the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
Mom, we were a good little family. I hope you are Dancing in the Sky. You are my Angel and you ARE worth it!
