Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Sophie (Romo) Morris and John B. Morris. The youngest of seven children, she was predeceased by brothers Peter and John and sisters Elaine, Grace, Marie and Lorraine. She is survived by her faithful nephews Jon Walker and Gregory Morris, special nieces, Anna Baldwin, Cindy Ballantyne, Anna Hewitt, Shelly Heath and Susan Powell, and cherished cousins Diane Melville and Arlene Moore.
After Anna attended Mount Saint Vincent Academy, she entered the Sisters of Charity. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts at Mount Saint Vincent University and then taught at Saint Nicholas of Tolentine and Saint Mary’s Schools in New York for six years before returning to teach at Saint Brigid’s School in Stellarton and Oxford School in Halifax. During that time, she completed a Masters of Arts in English at Saint Michael’s College in Vermont.
When Anna stepped away from the Sisters of Charity to attend to family responsibilities, she remained deeply connected to their good works and friendship. Continuing her work in education, she completed a Maters of Arts in Education Administration at Saint Mary’s University.
Anna was a dedicated and innovative administrator at the former Major Stevens and B.C Silver Junior High, Clayton Park Junior High and Elizabeth Sutherland School. She loved to travel and her class trips with junior high students to Paris, Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa provided special memories for them. Her love of the Montreal Canadians and the power of her heavenly prayers will certainly hasten the return of the Stanley Cup to Montreal!
Anna was active in many organizations dedicated to improving life in the Halifax Regional Municipality. After she retired from the Halifax Regional Centre for Education, she enjoyed her position as a Supervisor of Practicum Experiences in the Department of Child and Youth Study at Mount Saint Vincent University.
The family would like to thank the staff of Caritas and DePaul Hall for their dedicated service.
