I was in 2RCR when Barrie was a company commander. I wasn't in his company but knew him from the Mess. I was sadden to hear of his passing and send my condolences to his wife, Carla, and his children.

Carla and Family: Jan and I send our sincere condolences on Barrie's passing. He made a remarkably significant contribution through military service, especially in his deployments outside Canada.
I first met Barrie on course in Camp Aldershot in the summer of 1968. Later, we crossed paths when he filled various headquarters positions in Halifax. What a memory he possessed, which is why he was such a valuable staff officer, and he could relate a story in great detail in the mess as well.
May memories of the good times together help to sustain you in this time of sorrow.

Carla,    I will forever miss Barrie's great big smile  and always enthusiastic greeting when ever we would meet.  Barrie was a true professional  Infanteer.  We would meet occasionally after having worked, served, together.   While walking your pet dog; waiting for hamburger at a popular cafe on Oxford St ; Army museum annual meeting; RA Park and even in Ottawa , Byward Market a chance meeting one Saturday PM  . I am saddened to learn of Barrie's passing and wish to express my most sincere condolences to Carla and the Taylor family. 
Barrie was a well known member of our Halifax profession of arms, and served Canada with dignity and conviction. The last time I saw Barrie was at The Chicken Burger in Bedford. When I spoke to Barrie he said, "I recognize the voice, but not the face," as I had lost much weight since our last meeting, grown a beard, and was wearing dark sunglasses, incognito one might say.

Carol heard me talk many times about Barrie and wanted to  meet him.  She would have grown fond of Barry as I had. We grew up together on Melwood Ave. and played together as kids. Time grew us apart after High School and only saw him a few times in later years. We reconnected 5 years ago at the Halifax Army Museum as volunteers. 
Lunch with Barrie was definitely most informing, as he loved to talk about everything in the past and his military career. Barrie, please tell your Father I’m sorry I broke his window!!!

It was with great sadness that I heard about the passing of Barrie. I have very much enjoyed our conversations over the years at the RCR Association get togethers, when I saw him at the Army Museum, and when we visited him in the hospital when possible. Patty and I were deeply saddened by the passing of Barrie. He was a tough, hard career military man, who faced challenges that most of us could never even imagine. He faced many situations and remained committed to his duty. He was a true inspiration, a true warrior, an officer and gentleman, and a devoted family-oriented person. He served his country with honour and distinction, in many world conflict theatres, and his loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him. Although we cannot bring Barrie back, we can honour his memory by remembering the many positive contributions he made during his life. His bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family and country will be remembered and admired. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this grim time. 

My sincere condolences to the extended Taylor family on Barrie's passing. I first met Barrie in 1990, when we served together in Halifax and then continued to "bump" into each other over the intervening years. 
Barrie was an old-style, proper regimental officer, who was devoted to his profession. A man with wide-ranging interests and an extensive knowledge of many subjects, he liked nothing better than a deep discussion on any topic under the sun. 
He will be missed.

In later years, our paths occasionally crossed during our military service,  Barrie in the infantry and mine in the artillery. Barrie had a long and distinguished military career. Barrie was one of my most respected bosses from the early phase of my Regular Force career, and later a friend in my retirement. His honesty and integrity in supporting me in a sensitive military inquiry into significant theft remained with me as the gold standard of integrity expected in a military officer.
