He was born on May 21, 1940, a son of the late Ben and Elsie Moe. He grew up in his beloved Saskatchewan until teaching led him to Montreal in the year of Expo 67. It was there that he met his “little Jeannine” and they remained devoted to each other throughout 58 years of marriage.
Bernard obtained a master’s degree in Environmental Studies in Toronto in 1973. His career as a teacher and city planner enabled him to live and work in six provinces and the Northwest Territories.
He was a natural athlete, musician, passionate hobbyist, and lover of travel and World War II history. Born into a musical family, he had a deep, lifelong love of music, participating in choirs and bands and playing various instruments (trombone, piano, drums, and vibraphone to name a few). He also loved athletics, including swimming and marathon running.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Jeannine; daughters, Andrea and Katherine (David); grandchildren, Liam, Sylvie, Eric, and Sebastian, and his brother, Edward (Penny).
He is predeceased by his adored siblings, Ardelle and David.
A celebration of life will be held 2-4 p.m. on July 25, 2026, in the J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
Any donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
The family wishes to thank the staff at both Melville Lodge and Maplestone nursing homes for their excellent and compassionate care.
