Bobby Demestihas – 70, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2019, surrounded by his family.
Born in Mavrovouni, Greece, he was the son of the late Vasilios Demestihas and Eleni (Georgakakos) Demestihas. He is survived by his wife Maria (Papaioannou) of almost 50 years. Bobby moved to Canada in 1966 and worked tirelessly to establish his name in the Halifax restaurant and bar industry. He was the proud owner of The Green Dory, Bogart’s, The Office, The Graduate, and The Argyle Bar & Grill. As a young man, Bobby was an avid boxer, and throughout the years continued to enjoy fishing and hunting with family and friends, who knew him affectionately as “Buckshot”.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Bill (Natalie Dupuis), John (Deanne Robinson), and Helen (Pascal) LaPorte. He will be a forever “pappou” to his five grandchildren – Dylan, Labi, Noah, Elena, and Nicholas. Bobby is also survived by his siblings, Maria (Bill) Zelios, Margareta (Lambros) Kontostergios, Lilian (Spiro) Karteroulis, and Georgia (Jimmy) Georgantas.
