Carole was the daughter of Lorna Bernice Fletcher (nee Morris) and Hazen Edward Fletcher. She is survived by her brother Arden Fletcher (Hilda). Carole was predeceased by her first husband Millard LeRoy Ayer and their son Stephen Ayer, and her second husband Thomas Berkley McKay.
Carole spent her early years living in Advocate Harbour, Nova Scotia. She graduated from high school and continued her education, earning high honours from the Saint Charles Commercial School in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Carole’s working years included secretarial work and a longtime career with CIBC in Halifax.
Our mother loved being a mom. Although her health and other challenges in her life threw obstacles in her path, she would rise above those challenges and find a way to be a terrific mother and grandmother. Carole was buoyed by her strong faith in God and was a longtime member of the United Church of Canada. As an active participant of the United Church Women’s group, she developed beautiful friendships that were maintained throughout her life. Her involvement in the church gave her many opportunities to give, and brought her great joy.
Carole loved a good game of bridge which she continued to play into her 90’s. You could find her happily playing a hand once or twice a week with her bridge pals at Melville Heights. In her younger years mom enjoyed bowling and a spin around the dance floor, square dancing in her fancy skirts!
Mom’s soft spoken ways, quick wit, kind and generous heart, as well as the warmth of her smile were the endearing qualities that drew love and affection from the people who knew her.
Carole is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Prsala (Jan), Janet Feener (Bryon), Linda Ayer (Stephen), and Laura Wile (Baruck); her eleven grandchildren Janna Mazzarolo (Peter) and James Prsala (Fauziya), Joshua Feener (Kathryn) and Coady Feener (Mireille), Jonathan Ayer (Ali), Eric Wilson (Christy), Maddison Wilson (Matt) and Bradley Wilson (Jenna), Benjamin Wile (Brooke), Luke Wile (Tasha), and Melissa Cameron (Jordell); her fourteen great grandchildren Celena and Adrianna Mazzarolo, Zula Prsala, Molly and Hazel Feener, Isabella Ayer, Julien Greene, Charlotte and Levi Wilson, Amelia and Xander Wile, Clara, Dani and Alaine Wile and Sebastian Cameron.
Carole’s family will remember her with deepest love.
