Carrol Ann Smith

It is with deep sorrow that we share that Carrol Ann Smith, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt, passed away peacefully on December 26th, 2025, at the age of 83.

Carrol Ann is predeceased by her mother Vila (Halverson), her father Gordon (Smith), and son Jason Trenholm. She is remembered by her daughter Suzanne (Robert) Spence and son Robert (Sheila)Trenholm; her grandchildren: Nicole, Meghan (J.D.), Emily and Daniel; great-grandchildren: Robbie, Zahra, Scarlett, Sophie and Neveah. She is also remembered by her sister: Norma Jean, nieces and nephew: Jill, Aaron and Lisa, and her extended family. Carrol Ann is also remembered by special friends Ann, Mary, Alison, who visited and supported her until the end.

Carrol Ann was born on July 8, 1942, in Innisfail, Alberta, moving to Bible Hill, Nova Scotia, soon after. She attended Mount Allison University, obtained a Bachelors of Science in Education, completed masters degrees in MacDonald College, Montreal, before starting a teaching career in Truro. Carrol-Ann taught home economics to many students in the Truro, NS area over her working career retiring in 2007. Prior to retirement she completed a Masters degree at the University of New Hampshire in Addictions and Counselling. After retirement she continued to teach in China and in Northern Canada eventually gaining qualifications as an Orton-Gillingham teacher, where she continued to help young people in the Halifax area until she concluded consulting in 2022. She taught well into her 70’s. Carrol Ann was a deeply intelligent and devoted woman prizing both family and education during her life. She made life long friends during her time at university with Marion Smith (and family) and Lowell Ann Fulsang (and family). Her passion for the arts, for students, and good friends defined her. Her strength, dedication, and love will be remembered by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff, doctors, and nurses at the Moody Hall Retirement Home for their compassionate care during her difficult time.

A Memorial Service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Feed Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
