

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cathy (Young) Denis, age 69 of Bedford, NS on the 21st of August 2019 at the VG Palliative Care Unit after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, NS she was the daughter of the late James (Jack) and Margaret Young. Cathy was employed for over 30 years with the NS Department of Transportation as an accounting clerk. After retiring she picked up several small jobs in retail and with Elections Canada. She also enjoyed volunteer work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Cathy was well known for her beautiful smile and warm and welcoming personality. She made many friends everywhere she went. Her biggest joy was spending time with family, especially with her daughter and four grandchildren. She relished her role as grandmother and could be seen at all their many activities through the years. She was a warm and loving mother who always put family first. She leaves a beautiful legacy of love, honesty and generosity for all her many family members and friends.
Cathy enjoyed travelling, whether it was to Disney in Florida with family, Europe with friends, or her favoured destination of PEI where she had a small piece of paradise for several years at her trailer with the love of her life. She loved sharing the beauty of the island with her grandchildren. She was an avid Moosehead’s Hockey fan with Allen as a season ticket holder for nearly 20 years.
Predeceased by her husband, the love of her life and best friend, Allen Denis, she is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Owen) Brine, grandchildren, Emily, Benjamin, Ethan and Luke Brine, sisters Shirley Taylor, Janice (Billy) Smith, Marie Surette, brothers Jimmy (Madeline) Young, Ricky Young, Stephen (Nancy Boutlier) Young, Gary (Lynne) Young, Sonny (Lovey Leblanc) Young. and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax, on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. John Vianney Church, Lower Sackville on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 11:00 am with reception to follow. A family interment will take place at Oakridge Memorial Gardens following the reception.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ramjeesingh, Dr. Grant, the staff of the Palliative Car Unit and all the nurses on the Chemotherapy unit for their excellent care and support through this difficult journey. We request memorial donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
