Cecil was a devoted and loving husband to Doreen for 65 years, and a proud and caring father to Brian, Eric and Suzanne (Jeffrey Simpson). He was a cherished grandfather to Justine, Anna Marie and William, and a great-grandfather to Logan. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, in-laws Donna and John Bently, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Eric.
Cecil spent many of his early years on the Halifax Commons, where he developed his love of sports as an avid baseball player and track and field runner. Throughout his life, he remained active and enthusiastic about sports, also enjoying hockey, basketball, golf and boating. He enjoyed the many trips across North America and around the world he was blessed to have taken over the years.
His career began with CN Rail in Halifax, which led to a promotion and time spent living in Montreal. After returning to Halifax, he worked for Libby’s as a food salesman before pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit and opening a hardware store, Centennial Hardware, on Herring Cove Road, which he operated for 12 years. During that time, Cecil studied nights and weekends to become a stockbroker. He went on to work with Qualico Securities for several years before establishing his own property and development company, Cemanco Properties, which he ran proudly alongside his son Eric for 25 years.
Cecil will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday January 31, 5 pm to 8 pm in J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax, Nova Scotia.
