Charles J.D. Williams was born August 7, 1935 in Dartmouth Nova Scotia and passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022 in Halifax Nova Scotia of heart failure. He is survived by his children Billy Williams and Teresa “Tess” Williams. Charles is predeceased by his wife Mary Margaret (Brunton) Williams, their son Liam Keith Williams, father Capt. William R. Williams, mother Theresa Frances (Meehan) Williams and sister Grace (Williams) Wamback.
Charles will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, George and Linda (Brunton) Isley in Fergus ON as well as Sr. Eileen Brunton and Sr. Andrea Kowalczyk in Hamilton ON; all of whom have been a lifelong support to the Williams family. Charles also wished to thank his cousin Mary Kiley for her friendship and support.
Charles’ hearty laugh and keen sense of humour will be greatly missed, as well as his fascinating stories about his time in the Royal Canadian Air Force, first as a Regular Force Airman and later as a Communications Technician in the 1950s. He would fondly recount the time after his honourable discharge in 1961 when he was stationed at radar sites on Rowley Island in Foxe Basin, north of Baffin Bay and the west coast of Baffin Island as a Radar/Communications Technician to the Distant Early Warning System (DEW Line). Following his contracts in the Arctic, in 1964, he was employed by Canadair, Ltd. as an Engineering Technician in Montreal where he met and married his wife, Mary. Soon after, they headed to Yuma Arizona where he worked on Engineering trials for an aerial surveillance drone being developed for use by the Canadian, British, and West German armies. In late 1967, Charles and Mary returned to Montreal where their fraternal twins were born in 1968. In early 1971, Charles was hired by Michelin Tires to take management training in France before returning to Canada 11 months later to work at the Michelin Tire plant in Bridgewater NS until his retirement in 1994.
