OBITUARY

Christopher Dennis Houlihan

9 April, 1957 – 7 June, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

JA Snow Funeral Home

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved brother, Christopher Dennis Houlihan, at age 69 in Halifax on June 7, 2026. After a courageous 2.5-year battle with bladder cancer, Christopher leaves behind a legacy of strength and resilience. Born and raised in Halifax, Christopher was the cherished son of Francis and Claire Houlihan (Kearns). He will be deeply missed by his siblings: Frank Houlihan (Leslie) of Milton, Ontario; Tim Houlihan (Leona) of Dartmouth, NS; Donna McCormick of Halifax, NS; and Brian Houlihan (Joanne) of Hammond Plains, NS. “Uncle Chris” will always have a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Michael McCormick.

Christopher attended school in Halifax before earning his Bachelor of Science Degree from Dalhousie University in 1978, and later his Masters of Arts in School Psychology from Mount Saint Vincent University in 1984. With these achievements, he journeyed to Montreal, QC, where he spent his professional life as a dedicated school psychologist until retirement.

A passionate genealogist, Christopher devoted countless hours to exploring family history at the Nova Scotia Archives. He loved Broadway music, often filling his days with its melodies. In the last year and a half, Christopher returned to Halifax to be closer to family, enjoying many visits to his favourite coffee shops and especially the Armview Restaurant. True to his spirit, Christopher lived life fully and according to his own terms.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Myuran Thana for providing exceptional care throughout Christopher’s cancer journey, as well as to the doctors and nurses of the VG 7A Palliative Care unit for their compassion in his final days.

A mass of Christian burial will take place on June 24, 2026, at 10am at Saint Agnes Parish, 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax NS, with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the VG 7APalliative Care Unit.

Christopher’s memory and love will remain with us always.
