Born September 25, 1956 in Halifax to George and Florence (MacIsaac) Power, Chris entered the electrical trade as a teenager, making lifelong connections with people in the trades. He retired from the Halifax Port Authority in January 2025 after 35 years with a reputation for being a hard-working problem solver who enjoyed his work and completed projects with pride.
In 1982, he married the love of his life, Sharon, and together they built a life in Timberlea, raising their children in the two houses that Chris designed and constructed himself. In his younger years, he was actively involved in hockey and lacrosse at the city and provincial levels. He later took great pride in coaching and managing his children's youth hockey, soccer and lacrosse teams while instilling his values of hard work, sportsmanship, and resiliency in every child he coached. As a family, they enjoyed their summers in Inverness, and most recently fulfilled Chris’ bucket list trip to Newfoundland which ended with a trip to Inverness Beach on the way home. Chris was thrilled to be a grandad and found so much joy in watching his girls grow and explore.
Chris is survived by his wife, Sharon (née Dobson), daughter Stephanie of Timberlea, son Colin (Erica) of Hubley, and grandchildren, Wren and Neve, who brought him great happiness. He is also survived by siblings Patricia (Brian Jollymore) of Bedford, Nora (Tony Crawley) of Hubbards, Shawn (Stephanie Smith) of Porters Lake, and Tara (John Lockerby) of Timberlea, a number of nieces and nephews, maternal uncle Lloyd MacDougall of Inverness, and plenty of cousins.
Along with his parents, Chris is predeceased by his in-laws Donald and Janie (Longley) Dobson, aunts and uncles, and his walking buddy, Lady.
The Power family would like to thank the team at the VG Hospital’s PAC Lab who supported and encouraged Chris’s desire to remain active throughout his journey. The family is forever grateful for the entire team at Hospice Halifax who approach their work daily with respect, integrity and compassion.
At Chris’s request, there is to be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, September 9 at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at 6476 Bayers Road. A reception will follow from 3-5pm at Brunello Golf Course in Timberlea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Halifax, 618 Francklyn Street, Halifax, NS B3H 3B4 or online at https://hospicehalifax.ca/ways-to-give/donate/.
