With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Claudia Risk (Hickey) on April 7, 2026, at the age of 80. Claudia was the light of our lives—a woman of profound kindness whose compassion left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, she was the cherished daughter of the late Tyrill Gregory and Mary Elizabeth (MacDonald) Hickey. After spending her childhood in Shelburne and Hubbards, Claudia moved to Halifax in her late teens to attend hairdressing school. It was there she discovered a career she loved and formed friendships that would last a lifetime. Following a brief time in Toronto as a newlywed, Claudia returned to Halifax to raise her family alongside her beloved husband, Richard.
A master hairstylist, Claudia operated her own salon for nearly 60 years. To her clients, she was far more than a stylist; she was a confidante and a dear friend. Every person who sat in her chair left feeling more beautiful, inside and out.
Claudia lived a life of selfless devotion, always placing the needs of others above her own. She offered a rare blend of gentle wisdom and unconditional love, rooted in her deep faith. She found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures: tending to her garden, walking the Frog Pond trail, going to the beach, and baking treats to share with family, friends, and neighbors. She will be forever remembered for her warm smile and her unique ability to make everyone feel truly welcomed.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 60 years, Richard Risk; her loving daughters, Lynn (Patrick Hayes) and Stephanie (Darrell Stevens); and her adored grandchildren, Maya, and triplets Austin, Georgia, and Sophia.
She is survived by her sisters, Sharron (Bill) Walker and Janet Collins; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hickey; brother, Greg (Karen) Hickey; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Claudia was predeceased by her sisters, infant twins Jean and Joyce, Maureen Hickey, and Barbara (Hickey) DuVall, as well as her brothers, David and Robert Hickey.
