A lifelong resident of West Pennant, Colleen was the daughter of the late Joseph William and Guida Lillian (Marryatt) Tough.
At age 15, Colleen met her future husband, Phil, and together they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on October 4, 2026.
Colleen was most proud of her daughters, Julie Self and Erin Findley, and her grandchildren, Estelle Self and Taighan Findley. Her greatest joy was spending time with them.
She showed her love for her daughters in both practical and deeply personal ways. She nurtured their interests, was actively involved in their activities, sewed and knitted costumes and clothes for them, and made great sacrifices for their well-being and happiness. It was important to Colleen that her daughters be self-reliant and she made sure they had the knowledge, skills and resourcefulness they needed to do so.
Colleen was thrilled to assume the role of Nanny/Nana to her grandchildren and they adored her and the time they spent with her. She had a great imagination and could turn the ordinary into something special. She was a source of deep comfort and security to each of them. Estelle and Taighan benefitted from the love and guidance she gave, the values she modelled, and the magical moments she created, just as their mothers had before them.
Colleen had a long and productive working life. She began her career as a dental assistant and spent the final 23 years as an office manager, a role in which her intelligence, organizational skills, and practical nature served her well.
When her daughters were grown, Colleen continued to participate in shared interests and activities with them. She also pursued a variety of interests on her own, including woodworking and pickleball. She and Phil had an opportunity to travel and enjoyed bowling in multiple leagues over the past ten years. A voracious reader, she also treasured quieter moments spent reading, completing jigsaw puzzles, and going for walks.
Colleen faced life with unmatched strength and determination, an “it is what it is” attitude, and a great sense of humor that she kept until the very end. Colleen was wonderfully silly and never lost her sense of fun.
She set an example of living with integrity, being authentic, and being compassionate; giving her time or help to anyone who needed it, without judgment or any expectation of thanks.
She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She touched the lives of many, and those who knew her will carry her impact and legacy forward.
Colleen is survived by her husband of 52 years, Philip Lendell Findley; daughters, Julie Self (Edmonton, AB) and Erin Findley (Halifax, NS); special son, Brad Krawchuk; grandchildren Estelle Self and Taighan Findley; siblings, Leo (Peggy) Tough, George (Shirley) Tough, Jean Glover, David (Karen) Tough, and Paul (Marilyn) Tough; sister-in-law, Sandra Tough; special niece, Heather Tough; and many nieces and nephews.
