August 3, 1987 to June 16, 2010.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce Cory’s passing. He will be profoundly missed by his father Sheldon (Dina), his mother Bernadette Durnford, brother Nicholas, paternal grandmother Gaye Cosgrove-Shay, maternal grandfather Mark Durnford (Marie) maternal grandmother Mary Durnford, the love of his life Melissa Pratt, aunt Adele Saulnier (Kevin) cousins Jackie and Keenan. Cory graduated from J. L. Ilsley High School in 2005, and attended St Mary’s University for 1 year. He was employed by Steve and Sandy Coates Irving in Harrietsfield, and later by Eco Water Nova Scotia. Cory will be fondly remembered by his many wonderful and devoted friends (it would take pages to mention them all, but they know who they are) and the new little people in his life, Lucas and Calista.
Cory fought a long, tough battle with cancer from the time he was 11. In true form, Cory has donated his cancer-related organs to cancer research. He did not suffer fools lightly and had no tolerance for anything that would upset the balance of nature. His main concern was keeping the environment healthy for future generations. Everything was black and white for Cory, no grey area in between. One of Cory’s favourite sayings was “if I don’t return, avenge my death”, so in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to IWK Hematology/Oncology 6 Link will help to accomplish just that.
Special thanks to all of Cory’s nurses (his angels) and wonderful physicians who looked after him over the years and most recently Dr. Marie-Claude Gregoire and Lori Campbell, RN, who treated Cory with kindness, dignity and compassion at all times.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a later date at Fairview Cemetery.
A celebration of his life will be held at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Saturday, June 19, 2010, 3 pm to 5 pm. To view or place messages of condolence, you may view www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
