It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cindy. She was the daughter of the late Royce Nelson Pitman and Aileen Christine (Murray) Pitman. She is survived by her sister Heather Ann Pitman and cousins "the Reynolds boys" - Bruce (Elaine and family), Sandy (Carol and family), David (Gale - deceased) and Doug (Ann Sheree and family).
Cindy attended and graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax. After a few years in the workforce Cindy decided to pursue her calling and enrolled in the School of Nursing at the Victoria General Hospital, and graduated with the class of 1984.
Cindy was a quiet, gentle woman who lived a life of service both professionally and personally. Cindy retired from nursing 10 years ago after almost 30 years, most of which were spent as a cardiac OR nurse. Cindy loved her job and by all reports was exceptional in the role. She was passionate about union contracts and nurses rights and the gentle demeanour could disappear when it came to strikes and/or walkouts.
In her personal life, Cindy was the one that folks confided in because she listened, offered sage advice and the warmest, most sincere hugs. Two years ago she was diagnosed with Posterior Cortical Atrophy, a rare form of dementia. Despite this devastating diagnosis Cindy persevered; she tackled each new struggle with grace and determination and most importantly, without complaint. Cindy continued to be a friend to all as she prepared for her own ending. In 2023 Cindy contacted and was approved to have a medically assisted death (MAID) and she drew comfort knowing that she would determine how and when she would pass. Cindy decided it would be Valentine’s Day because it was a day of love and it was her hope that on this anniversary people would think of her with love and smile. Cindy died as she lived, quietly and surrounded by love.
Also left to mourn this incredible woman are Stephanie Gagne (Joey and family), her best friend from childhood, Bruce Guinchard an OR co-worker and the person who could make Cindy laugh the most/loudest, Janet Campbell, Cindy’s best friend/care partner and co-parent to the furry kids, Cali and Louie. She was predeceased by her Nana (Mary Helene Pitman), “bestie” Caryl McAteer and her beloved canine boys, Trump and Jimmy.
There will be no funeral service or visitation by personal request. Cremation has taken place and internment will be in Fairview Lawn cemetery at a later date.
Because Cindy’s love for animals knew no bounds she requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Misfit Manor Dog Rescue or a charity of your choice.
