Marc arrived in 1952, the third of three sons born to Leila (nee Suckling) and J. Philip Dumaresq, a daughter finally followed. Marc was the son of an Engineer as well as the father, brother, and uncle of Engineers. An Engineer’s Engineer, Marc was professional and knowledgeable, always willing to discuss a building design issue at any time, day or night. If you have been in a school in Nova Scotia constructed in the last 43 years, chances are Marc was the Electrical Engineer.
Following employment at MT&T, Marc co-founded Dumac Energy Ltd in 1983. Dumac is now one of the largest, independently owned Mechanical and Electrical Consulting Engineering Firms in Nova Scotia. Marc mentored countless young Engineers and technicians over 42 years. People rarely left Marc’s employment, preferring to become “Dumac Lifers”. We are very happy that Dumac will continue on, under the able leadership of Nicole Pettipas and Mark Eisnor. Marc really wanted this to be widely broadcast!
Marc was kind, thoughtful, generous, and had a wicked sense of humour. Marc was a wonderful husband, doting on Sue (nee Browne) for the almost fifty years of their loving marriage. Marc was also a terrific father to Kate (Dave Langille, children Sadie, Max and Asher), Rob (Melanie, children William and Finn), and Scott (Hyunah).
Marc and his company provided free engineering services to Our Health Centre in Chester, Hope Cottage, two l’Arche projects, and many other non-profit enterprises. Marc and Sue were active volunteers in St James Anglican Church, the Discovery Centre and several other charities.
Marc loved spending half the year at the family cottage in Chester. You could see the worries of the world fade from him every time he arrived. When he wasn’t reviewing engineering plans at the dining room table, he was always working to improve the property. Marc took great pride in maintaining the Chester property, teaching his children and grandchildren the lessons he learned from his father. Marc loved seeing the pool in use. He worked tirelessly to make sure it was open for all the grandkids and extended family. We will miss Marc terribly, especially at the traditional, annual lobster boils on the beach, which he and Sue organized; as well as all the other family gatherings Marc so cherished.
Marc loved sailing and passed that passion on to his children, none more than Scott. Sailing to “Hotdog” island for a family picnic was a yearly tradition. Sue reminding him every time to take the bumpers in after leaving the wharf. Marc and Sue also had many adventures chartering boats down south.
In addition to his immediate family, Marc is survived by his brother Sydney (Sandra and family), sister Daphne (Alan and family) and sister-in–law Paula (and family). Marc was pre-deceased by his brother Peter and parents Leila and J. Philip. There will be no visitation, however a Celebration of Life will held be on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 11:00 at St James Anglican Church, 2668 Joseph Howe Dr. Halifax.
In lieu of flowers Marc would prefer donations to St James Anglican Church, 2668 Joseph Howe Dr. Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3L 4E4; https://www.stjamesarmdale.ca. Or the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St, Halifax, NS B3H 1S6; https://www.cancer.ca
