It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the death of Frank Cameron. Dad died as he lived-with quiet dignity. Dad was ill for only a few short weeks and for that we are thankful. Frank and Dena married in 1962 and raised 3 children; Melvin, Patricia, and Dale. Frank was born and raised in Mabou, Cape Breton and brought us there every holiday and long weekend. There was nothing Dad enjoyed more than a Ceilidh, square dance, good game of cards, and a cup of tea.
Family was everything to dad. When he wasn't officiating at swim meets, he could be found at music recitals and softball games. As Grandad, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren at swim meets, hockey, volleyball, and baseball games and playing cards with them. He never missed a graduation or special event.
Dad worked for Standard Paving/Lafarge for 46 years, retiring in 1995. In his retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling. Over the years they travelled to Rome, Italy, Scotland, Florida, Newfoundland, and of course to their “trailer” in Mabou.
Dad was an active member of St Stephen's Parish. His volunteering included usher, alter server, counter of the collection, maintaining the parish garden, and delivering food to Hope Cottage on behalf of the parish. Dad was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Dad was an avid bowler and card player. Dad was a self-taught carpenter. Many of the items in Mom and Dad's home and in their Church were Dad's creations. Dad was also a regular blood donor and received an award for donating for over 50 years.
Frank leaves behind his wife of 56 years Dena, son Melvin (Heather) and their son David; Patricia Grant (Alec) and their daughters Catherine and Alison, and Dale Hughes (David) and their children David Jr., Cameron, Claire, Ryan and Bridgette; Brothers Bernard (Jessie), and Edward (late Carlene); and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Christena (MacNeil), brothers Sandy, Angus Francis, Lawrence, and sisters Catherine, Annie May, Rebecca, Alexena, Anna Marie and Ena.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 4, 2018 from 6-8pm at J.A. Snow's Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10am at Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata Church (formally St. Stephen's Church), 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax. Father Andrew Rembarczyk officiating.
Family flowers only.
The family asks that you please donate blood to the Canadian Blood Services, or donate to Hope Cottage in lieu of flowers.
