

Donald Lloyd Mason, 85, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the QEII Infirmary, Halifax Nova Scotia, on September 24, 2024. He was the husband of Muriel (Holmes). They shared 63 years of marriage together. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of Harry and Ruth Mason. He attended schools in New Glasgow and Amherst, and graduated from Mount Allison University, Nova Scotia Technical College, and University of Toronto.
He began his professional practice in 1962 as the first Professional Engineer of Cumberland County. Over the course of his long career, he operated his own engineering and planning companies and provided infrastructure and development services throughout Atlantic Canada. He was a councilor on the board of Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia and was made an honorary life member of APENS, received a Presidential citation from APENS (2006), and was a Fellow of Engineers Canada.
Don was a member of the United Church and enjoyed travelling with family and spending time at the cottage. He served as Executive Director and Officer of Communications for Otter Lake Waste Resource Community Monitoring Committee, and 10 years each on Halifax School Board and Halifax Water Commission, where a boardroom was named in his honour upon his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Muriel, daughter Pamela (Michele), son Scott (Jeni), grandchildren Keigan and Harrison, brother Wayne (Brenda). He was predeceased by his parents and daughter Linda.
The family is grateful for the care received at Parkstone and the QEII Infirmary over the past year. There will be a family graveside service and interment at a later date.
