

Gorman, Doris Evelyn of Halifax, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on September 3, 2015. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of William H. and Alice (Butt) Orton. She was predeceased by husband Frank W. Gorman(1990) and brothers William and Kenneth Orton. She was a long term active member of First Baptist Church in Halifax, an avid gardener and lover of all plants; a great reader of books and newspapers, loved doing the crosswords and was a loyal CBC fan. Doris had a zest for life and was admired by all for her friendly nature and great sense of humour. She was fiercely independent and continued to travel alone with little assistance until the end of her life. She enjoyed attending plays at Stratford Theatre in Ontario, family gatherings and activities with friends. She is survived by daughters Donna Keddie of Kitchener, ON, Janet Kelly(Donald) of Dartmouth and Susan Chambers(Michael) of Halifax, sons Paul Gorman(Ina) of Stratford, ON and Barrie Gorman of Burnaby, BC, brothers Donald Orton(Denise) of Cornwall, ON and John Orton of Mississauga, ON; grandchildren Peter Keddie (dec’d 2010), Glen Keddie (Kristin), Evan Kelly(Wendy), Ryan Kelly(Elizabeth), Jonathan and Erin Chambers, Siobhan Brogan, great grandchildren Christopher and Steven Ruttan, Claire and Reid Kelly and Finnigan and Ash Keddie. Funeral service will be held in First Baptist Church, 1300 Oxford St. Hfx., Wednesday, September 9 at 2pm., followed by a reception in the church parlour, private family interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or First Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the staff of the QEII Hospital, Unit 8.1, for their superb care and compassion during her last days.
