Doug was born, raised, and lived his life in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia—a place he loved deeply.
He was predeceased by his parents Owen and Alice, his beloved wife Barbara, son Owen (Melissa), brother Jack (Gloria), and sister Marie (Charles).
Doug leaves behind cherished memories with his son Gordon (Gena), grandchildren Daxton, Katie (James), Scott (Val), and the extended McLellan family.
Growing up in Tufts Cove, Doug often joked, “The further you went, the tougher it got—and I lived at the very end.” When his father passed during Doug’s high school years, he put his own dreams aside to support his family. That sense of responsibility and determination shaped his life. In 1952, he began working at DC Keddy Ltd., starting in the warehouse and rising through the ranks to become one of the owners—a testament to his hard work and integrity.
Doug had a lifelong love of sports and community. He rowed with the North Star Rowing Club, curled for 42 years with the Dartmouth Curling Club—winning provincial and Maritime titles—and enjoyed golf at Sunrise Beach Golf Club. His passion for curling and golf was shared with Barb, his partner in life and in many friendly competitions.
Summers at Brule Shore were a highlight for Doug and Barb, surrounded by friends on Fieldwood Lane. In retirement, they embraced the joy of travel, exploring the world together.
Doug will be remembered for his humor, resilience, and devotion to family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no service by request.
