Ruby and family,

Extending my condolences to you all. Learned only today of Uncle Doug's passing, my heart goes out to you.

I enjoyed visiting with you both when you were in Texas for a brief time. Many wonderful memories of Uncle Doug. His laugh, was infectious he loved life as much as the golf course. One of the kindest, most stoic people I had both the priviledge to have known and been able to call family.

Prayers and love sent.

Eleanor and I learned of Doug's passing just recently. We were both shocked and saddened. I was hired at Marsh Adjustment Bureau in late 1969 at the age of 22. He was my mentor and the single most important and most respected person in my entire insurance career. Later, as a broker I continued to use the skills he taught me- including the true meaning of integrity. I feel honored to have had him as part of my life.
Our deepest sympathy and condolences to his family.

I was very much saddened to learn of the death of my good friend Doug Holmes. He was a long time golf companion and family friend and he will be sadly missed by me and my family, and quite frankly, by every one fortunate enough to have known him. I hereby wish to extend to Ruby and other members of his family my sincere condolences. John Alward

Judi and I were saddened to learn of Doug's passing. He was a wonderful friend and traveled with us for many years at the annual conventions of the International Institute of Loss Adjusters. Doug was a Past President of IILA in 1992 and one of our convention highlights was the year we convened in Halifax. He indeed was a giant in the insurance industry and we will miss his sense of humor and intelligence. God be with you, Doug.

I worked with Doug for twenty years at Marsh Adjustment Bureau and he was a very fine gentleman who was always eager to help anyone he could with his extensive knowledge and expertise of the insurance industry. His wife, Elsie, was also a wonderful person to work with and was loved by all who knew her. The world has lost a very good man. Rest in peace, Doug.

I am just learning of Doug’s passing and was saddened by the news. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family.

I knew Doug very well, having been a principle at Jack & Co. Ltd., a general insurance agency in Halifax, for many years. He was the consummate gentleman, a kind hearted sole who was always easy to talk to and had time for everybody.

I would also run into Doug at Ashburn, a place where he showed as much passion for the game as he did in business.

Doug will be missed not only for the type of human being he was but also as a leader in the insurance industry. There are few today that will be able to take his place.

I will miss him dearly but I will always remember the times when he brought a smile to my face.

We were sorry to read in the Evening Telegram of Doug's death. He was always a ray of sunshine when he met us in Florida at the NLFloridaSociety Picnic. We had instant reviews of his and our memories about Newfoundland. We remembered his father - Rev. A.N. and the association with Old Perlican, NL when Doug was a teenager. We will miss him this year at Fort De Soto Park, FL. May God be your comforter and sustainer as you mourn Doug's passing.

Ruby, we go back to going to school together on Bell Island. So many wonderful memories.
This sad part of the journey is upon us and is indeed upsetting. I will always remember the first time I met Doug. It was at the Ashburn Golf Club where Sterling and I played a round of golf with him. What wonderful patience and encouragement he showed me as I bunny hopped around the course. You joined us there for lunch - a happy day for sure.
Over the years whenever we got together, he proved to be a man to be admired. We are thinking of you and pray that you will find peace as a new chapter in your life opens without Doug.
Blessings to you and the family.
With love and compassion,
Louisa and Sterling
