Edith Mary Baxter

Baxter (Butt), Edith Mary - 73 years, Halifax, dies Saturday, June 6, 2009, in Maplestone Enhanced Care. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Captain Edward and Edith Butt (Hiscock). Edith is suvived by her loving husband of 48 years, Rev. Carson Baxter; son, Peter (Ruth Ann); grandsons, James (Lindsay), Mark, and great-granddaughter Callie. She graduated from Camp Hill Hospital as a C.N.A. Edith nursed in Wolfville General Hospital before joining the Canadian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service. She was very active within the Anglican Church, was an associate of the Sisters of the Church, Oakville, Ont., as well as a member and director of choirs at various Nova Scotia Anglican Churches and a long-time Sunday school teacher. She had also been involved in the Cubs and Scouts movement in Nova Scotia. She loved to travel by train, especially when she was accompanied by her grandsons, James and Mark, who were her two shining lights. Recently she was thrilled with the addition of her first great-grandchild Callie who gave her much joy. For the last nine months Edith was a very happy resident of Maplestone enhanced Care in Fairview. Visitation will be held today from 6-9p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 10, at 2p.m. in Cathedral Church of All Saints, 1330 Martello St., (Formerly Tower Road), Halifax, conducted by Bishop Sue Moxley. Family flowers only.
