OBITUARY

Edward Neil COLBORNE

15 June, 19278 October, 2021

Dad passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021 at the age of 94. He was born in Sydney, NS on June 15, 1927 and he was the son of the late Albert and Florence (Matheson) Colborne. Dad graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1948) and Bachelor of Law Degree (1951). As a Lawyer, he practiced law in Sydney, NS working for the law firms MacNeil, MacNeil & Colborne and Khattar & Khattar. He was also employed with HB Nickerson and Sons Limited in North Sydney, NS and Polymer Corporation Limited in Sarnia, ON. Dad is survived by his children Lisa (Steven) Morrison, Andrew (Melissa) Colborne, Kathy McKinster, David Myers and 6 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie (Parsons) Colborne, brother Blair Colborne and daughter Heather (Myers) Pinkston. Dad was a smart, content and private person. In his early years, Dad enjoyed bridge nights with friends, curling at the Sydney curling club and cross country skiing. He spent many years running the roads to watch his kid’s hockey and soccer games. Dad always enjoyed shucking a large box of oysters he would pick up at the wharf every Christmas and as kids we looked forward to this Christmas tradition. He would read the Chronicle Herald and Cape Breton Post word for word and there were not too many crossword puzzles or cyrptoquote he couldn’t finish. Most of all Dad loved spending summers at the cottage in Baddeck, relaxing with family around the bonfire. Over the last 8 years, Dad lived at White Hills Long Term Care Centre in Hammond’s Plain, NS. Words cannot express our heartfelt appreciation for all the kindness and compassion shown to Dad during his time at White Hills. A special thank you to nurse Jaclyn MacLean and the many staff who cared for Ed. Cremation has taken place and a private Interment will take place at the Cathedral Church of All Saints Columbarium at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.jasnowfuneralhome.com

We were sad to hear your Dad had died. We have so many good memories of times and meals shared with your folks when we all lived in Cape Breton. Your Dad was a quiet and thoughtful man who Eric enjoyed working with. They were so good to include us and help us make new friends when we first arrived. I still have many recipes with your Mom’s name beside. Our sincere sympathies go out to you all. Nancy and Eric

Kathy and family,

My condolences on the loss of your father. Kathy, after reading the obituary in the paper I remembered when we were in university, your father would sometimes come to Halifax for meetings and take you out for dinner. We were all green with envy as we headed off to the dining hall. Although life has taken us in different directions I think of you often. Your father was a gentle kind man.

My Mother always chuckled when she told the story about walking in to Khatter and Khatter and asked to speak with Buddy Colborne.
The receptionist was about to say no one here by that name when your Dad came around the corner. He said only old friends call him by Buddy all new friends called him Ed. I am Thelma and Ray Hubley's daughter. Your Dad and my Mom were first cousins. She passed away 6 years ago but she always wondering how your Dad was until shortly before she passed away.
Iam so sorry for your loss.
