Monday, January 6, 2025 from injuries sustained after being struck in a crosswalk near his
home.
Born in Halifax, October 17, 1952, he was the eldest child of the late Edward Murphy and Elise
(Robicheau) Murphy.
Ned did not live an easy life as he suffered from a prolonged mental illness for more than 50
years. He was however able to live on his own in Dartmouth for many years. Ned loved to walk
and hike and for many years was an avid photographer.
He is survived by six siblings: Michelle Baker, Mathew (Moira), Andrew, Philip (Susan Allen) and
Annette (Ted Larsen), all of Halifax and Lisanne (Jim) Knoepffler, of New Jersey.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Florida and
California.
The nieces and nephews remember his epic nature walks through his old childhood
neighborhood of Jollimore and the Dingle when he regaled them with tales of fairies and
gnomes and showed them the best spots for making tree forts.
The family wish to thank everyone who has been involved in one way or another with Ned’s care
and support over the years.
In Ned’s memory, donations may be made to the Hope for Mental Health Society or the
Canadian Mental Health Association, Halifax-Dartmouth branch.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
