Born on December 9th, 1954, in Messinia, Kalamata, Greece, Elie was the beloved son of his late parents, Demetrios and Evangalia Lyberopoulos, and brother to Vasilis, Thanasis, George, and Katina.
Elie married his lifelong partner, Georgia, on June 12th, 1977, in Greece. Shortly after their marriage, the happy couple immigrated to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where they would raise their two sons, Demetrios and Evagelos.
It was here that Elie began a humble chapter working at Nova Tile, a job that would later become his lifelong profession. Inspired by the work of those around him, Elie went on to open his own company, Star Marble & Ceramic Tile, in October 1989, becoming a respected leader in his field.
With unwavering ambition, Elie dedicated himself to providing for his loved ones and building a legacy through his work. Until his final days, he worked side by side with his wife and son, Demetrios, passing down his strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to those who meant the most to him.
To those who knew him best, Elie was selfless, always offering support to family and friends in any way he could, while graciously extending a helping hand to his church and community whenever needed.
Even from afar, you could recognize Elie by his loud laugh and the warmth in his expression. He is remembered as a man who celebrated every moment to the fullest: the first to step onto the dance floor to passionately perform a zeibekiko to his favourite Greek music, pulling others up to join him in embracing his culture and sharing a moment of simple, spontaneous joy.
To know Elie was to know you always had someone you could depend on. He left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path, even those he met only briefly. His humour, quick wit, and infectious spirit drew people in, making everyone feel at home in his presence. His daughters-in-law, May and Vasiliki, are a testament to his boundless warmth and generosity; through his kindness and big heart, they felt not like in-laws, but like true daughters.
Elie’s strength and generosity will be carried on through his wife of 48 years, Georgia, who was not only his partner in love, but in work and in daily life. With great love and determination, Georgia carries forward the life they built together, honouring his memory in all that she does, and missing her devoted husband deeply.
His sons—who looked up to Elie as a man whose purpose was to be a loving father, supportive husband, and genuinely caring person—honour his legacy by embracing the lessons their father instilled in them. With deep gratitude, they move forward carrying his spirit, values, and devotion to those he held dear.
Above all, the light of Elie’s world was his cherished granddaughter, Ioanna. Her laughter and bright spirit mirror his own, and his effortlessly joyful nature lives on through her. She is a lasting reminder of the love and light her papou brought to everyone around him.
Elie is survived by his devoted wife, Georgia; his two sons, Demetrios (May) and Evagelos (Vasiliki); and his granddaughter, Ioanna. He is also survived by his loving extended family in Canada: his sister and brother-in-law, Helen Lazaros and Konstantinos Lazaros; and their children, Tasia and Stratos (Godson), and his sons, Konstantinos and Vassilios, as well as his brother-in-law Ioannis Giannoukakis. Elie will also be dearly missed by his beloved family in Greece.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29th 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at JA Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive. The funeral service will take place at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church on Purcells Cove Road on Thursday, October 30th at 12 PM. Father Panagiotis Maropoulos will officiate.
The Lyberopoulos family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Cobequid Community Health Centre and the QEII Halifax Infirmary for the excellent care they provided to Elie.
