LAWLOR – E. Bernard (Bernie) – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernie Lawlor of Halifax, at the age of 85 on Saturday, March 11, 2017. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Erinville, Guysborough County. He was the eldest son of the late Martin Vincent and the late Anne Josephine (White) Lawlor. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Isabel (Zwicker) Lawlor; daughters Cathy (Hall), Carolyn; sons Stephen (Amanda), Mark (Leah); grandchildren Randy (Katie), Tyler, Brendan, Jordan, Lilly; great-grandchildren Alexis, Owen, Abigail, Taliyah, Hayden and Landen. He is also survived by loving brothers Gerard (Jean) and Roy (Roselle) and foster sister Shirley Harper; and sister-in-law Linda and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Jack (Linda), and twin sister Clara in infancy. Bernie was a devoted family man who was very involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. He always introduced Mom, as of late, as “my bride of 50 years.” We got a great kick out of this. In his younger years, he worked at a number of sawmills in Guysborough County. He moved to Halifax in 1960 and worked in the car industry as a Service Manager. In 1974, he started working at MT&T as a Shop Foreman for 15 years, retiring in 1989. He was a big part of the Centennial Hawks and Halifax Hawks Minor Hockey Associations and was equipment manager for 40 years at Centennial Arena in Fairview. He organized and coached a gentleman’s hockey team called Bernie’s Aces since 1988, players who grew up in the Fairview/Rockingham area who still play together today. Bernie was involved with Hockey Nova Scotia for more than 20 years as Regional Director of the Halifax Region. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Over the years, he touched many lives and always made time to stop and have a chat. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. Arrangements entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Dr., Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to charity of choice.
