Erlinda Rivera (née Amoranto) Unite, born in Biñan, Laguna to Benjamin and Natividad Amoranto, and a Canadian citizen for over 60 years, passed away in the loving embrace of her family on Wednesday, June 24th.
She was the beloved Nanay to Ciel and Carlos; cherished Lola to Edan and Ivy; a mother figure to Jules and Amanda; and a loving sister to the Amoranto family: Rogelio and Virginia, Meliza, Rosauro and Conchita, Rhodora, Joel and Luisa, and Armando and Aurora. Erlinda is now at peace with her parents, beloved husband, Victor Unite, her brother Wilfredo, and her sister-in-law Lilia.
She was a cherished Tita and Ninang and will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched. Linda had a rich life filled with love which she intentionally and authentically devoted to caring for others - not just for her family but as evidenced in her 35-year career in dietetics at the QEII and 25+ years as a Forever Fit instructor (especially to her beautiful Emmanuel group).
Erlinda’s exemplary contributions to the Filipino Community in Halifax are highlighted in her work as a cultural interpreter for Access Language Services Inc., and as an original member, president and board member of the Filipino Association of Nova Scotia and informally supporting new Filipinos to Canada.
Beyond her deep love for her plants and garden, Linda loved music and was an original member of Harana Singers. There will be a foundation in her name through Harana in the coming year and details to donate will be shared by her family at a later date.
Visitations will be held at J A Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax on Wednesday July 1st from 2-4pm and 6-8pm; Thursday July 2nd from 2-4pm and Celebration of Life from 6-8pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday July 3rd 11am at Stella Maris Parish, 6 St. Michaels Ave., Halifax.
