Sampson, Evelyn Marie, of Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, NS, passed away suddenly but very peacefully at the Hants Community Hospital on March 16, 2018, with her daughter, Peggy and son-in-law, Ralph Edwards by her side. Born in Dartmouth, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Margaret (Brommit) Casey.
Evelyn was a true friend to those who knew her. She willingly pitched in to help friends and family in times of need. Evelyn was a strong woman.
When her husband joined the Army she quickly followed with a move to Ontario in 1954. She and Peggy went off to a new place by train. She moved again to Germany in 1961, again with Peggy. Having only 2 weeks' notice, she packed two trunks, sold a car, gave away pets, and cleaned the house top to bottom. In Germany, she got her driver's license - no easy feat in the early 60's. In her 50's, Evelyn and Martin moved back to Nova Scotia and together they built a new home.
She was a Brownie Leader (Tawny Owl) for many years and taught knitting to many girls. She also loved helping out at Day Camps with Brownies. She loved music and with the help of a keyboard chart managed to figure out and mark down her favourite songs and hymns. For many years she played these almost daily. Something that continued over all these years was her love of Nature. Camping, fishing, boating, trail walks, these were always enjoyed by her. It was a part of her life long curiosity about life.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her granddaughter, Kristan (Andrew) Forsey. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Martin; two brothers, Cornelius "Con", Donald "Buster" and her sister, Margaret "Peggy" Flemming.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be sometime in the nicer weather at Oakridge memorial Gardens, Sackville, NS. All arrangements were made through J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax. If you wish, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
