Filomena Teresa Spensieri

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Filomena Teresa Spensieri (Corsetti) on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 13, 1933 in Vestea, Pescara, Italy, she was the daughter of Palma (Squartecchia) and Alfonso Corsetti. She is survived by her son Joe (Carmela) and daughter Pina (Nick); her grandchildren who she so adored: Riccardo, Anthony, Santina, and Massimo; and her sisters and brother: Maria, Margherita, Inesa and Gianfranco. She was predeceased by her loving husband Liberato, and sister Ida. She will be missed by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Filomena, nonnina to many, was a petite woman but was also a strong and dominating individual with a big heart who always put family first. She would do anything for her family; especially her grandchildren who she was so proud of, and who always managed to put a sparkle in her eye and smile on her face. Filomena immigrated to Canada in 1954 and began her life in Halifax until she met her husband, Liberato where they started their life together in Montreal but eventually moved back to Halifax. When not cooking or baking for the family which she loved to do, she enjoyed her time in her garden. She always welcomed everyone to her house; the more the merrier. She had a love for music and dancing, and enjoyed time with her family members. She was a teacher to many for cooking, baking, and gardening. She will be missed by all those who knew her. She will always remain in our hearts.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at 11:30 am at St. Agnes Church, 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many health care providers at the Halifax Infirmary for the wonderful care of Filomena. A very special thank you to our God Sent – Anna, our mom’s home care provider, who not only looked after our mom but loved her as her own!
