

Born in Toronto, Ontario on June 11, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Gladys Lewis. Following her marriage to Jim, they moved to Nova Scotia in 1951 and settled in Rockingham. Fran had a strong faith, and was devoted to her family, church and community. She was a truly amazing lady who was well loved and always had a smile and a kind word for all. She was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and many friends.
Fran was a tireless volunteer who recognized the key to life is to love and serve others. She was actively involved in many organizations including the Stephen Lewis Foundation - Grandmother Campaign, KAIROS, Brunswick Street Mission, Partners for Human Rights, Palliative Care and hosted/mentored University International Students. Within her church, Rockingham United, where she served for over 60 years, she participated in virtually every aspect of church life from Sunday School teacher, through to her most recent work with the Outreach Committee.
Fran was recognized with the Halifax Mainland North Champion award for community involvement and presented with a certificate of recognition from the Province of Nova Scotia for her long standing involvement and dedication to the promotion of human rights in the community. Fran was a lifelong learner, enjoyed being active and had many interests. At the time of her passing she was a member of Toastmasters, bridge clubs, women’s groups and her church choir. Many children were blessed to receive a handmade stuffed animal, one of “Fran’s Little Friends” and for decades she created all baptismal and church banners. Fran had a deep passion for all music, and she believed it was fundamental to her life.
Fran is survived by her son,s Andrew, David (Johanna), Phillip (Pam), and Ian; sister, Marjorie Russell; brother, John Lewis (Mickey) and grandchildren, Sarena (Fer), Lance, Shileen (Mark), Katie, Mark, Matthew. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, James Paton; sister, Patti Lewis, and brother, Bill Lewis. Fran’s legacy is that she touched the lives of everyone she met, to know her was to love her.
Visitation will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, Nova Scotia on Friday April 15th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Celebration of life will take place at Rockingham United Church on Saturday, April 16th at 11:00 AM with reception to follow interment at St. John’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to Rockingham United Church, Grannies for Grannies or a charity of your choice.
