Gail Patricia Walker

28 June, 195228 April, 2021

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 28 2021 at the QEII Health Sciences Center at the age of 68, after a long and courageous battle with Bulbar onset ALS. She was born in Halifax and was the daughter of the late Charles and Phyllis (Tillie) MacDonald.

Gail was always the bright and shining light of any social gathering wherever she went. As a young girl she skated with the Bluenose Figure Skating Club at the Halifax Forum. Having retired from the Health Association of Nova Scotia a number of years ago, she took one day at a time and always enjoyed life to the fullest. Gail spent many years as a summer resident at the Sherwood Forest Camping Park in the Annapolis Valley where she made many lasting friendships.

She is survived by her husband Blair and her two children, Ryan and Natalie Carr and her stepsons, Edward (Cheryl), Ian (Lisa), Blair (Kelly) and her grandchildren Shelby, Brooke, Molly, Cole, Lexi, Ashley and Mackenzie. In addition, her sister Barbara Bower and brother Greg MacDonald (Colleen) and her sister in-law Sheila Gammon and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her favourite brother in-law Robert Bower.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to her very special cousin friend Nancey (Sis) Trueman who cared for Gail during her illness. Special thanks to Dr. Suzanne Salsman, the Rehab Team and the VON Nurses and medical staff at the QEII for their excellent care as well as the ALS Society for their continued support.

Arrangements have been entrusted to J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. There will be no visitation by her request. A private service will be held on Saturday May 1, 2021 @ 2:00 pm with interment to follow later in the Stella Maris Cemetery, Pictou. My most heartfelt sympathy to Gail's loved ones.
I have such fun and warm memories of Gail during our teen years. She was always laughing. I'll never forget the afternoon of ear piercing in the apartment on Frederick Ave. ! I went to Clayton Park Jr. High and Halifax West with Gail and we also skated together. I wish we had stayed in touch. A bright light now shines from above. Rest in peace. 🌹

Gail was the most kind hearted women I know. I have many memories of her at the campground and always a joy to stop and talk with her and Blair. My 5 yr daughter just loves both of them. They were both so good to me and my daughter- welcoming us with open arms. Gail and I shared laughs right up to this past Summer. My heart goes out to the family, Blair and the kids. Your mom was an amazing person and truly can not replaced. I am so grateful to spend a few Summers getting to know her. The funeral was beautiful - as I sit here thinking of her, tears overwhelm me - but I know she will be needed on the next tier of life.

Love always
Stephanie and Charley

Well, we move through life and sometimes we forget. But we always remember, friends, sisters, brothers and cousins.
Gail, I remember you , your Mom, your Dad and your siblings.
You seemed the quiet one, maybe I was?
I was at your Mom’s wake and I will never forget you coming to me saying you had A.L.S..
That memory will stay with me forever.
You will live in peace as I will never forget that moment.
Sleep softly my cousin.

I remember Gail as a funny and friendly lady when we all spent our time at the rink watching our kids play hockey. Those were the days. She always had a smile and a funny story to tell. My sincere condolences to Ryan and Natalie and all of her family.

Our deepest condolences to Blair and family during this most difficult time. Although I haven't seen Gail in a few years I have many nice memories of her as a very caring person and always had a smile that lit up a room. I do remember sharing time with her and family at Sherwood Forest Campgrounds in earlier years where we had lots of laughter and a few cold ones. You are all in my thoughts and prayers in this time of sorrow. Love Elaine & family

To Gail’s family I wish to send my condolences .

I have searched for Gail for many years and my heart is broken that I can never tell her how much she meant to me. I only recently discovered her married name and tonight I picked up my computer and keyed it in.
I have finally found her.
Gail and I were fast friends from the moment we started junior high. We wore our hair the same, wore the same clothes and did all the fun firsts together. We were inseparable for a few precious years. It was always Gail and Dale.
The last time I saw her was at a bus stop in Halifax and she said “we should have coffee some time”. That was 47 years ago.
Good bye my friend. I cherish the memories we made and love you no less now than I did then.
