

LEITCH, George Andrew It is with heavy hearts that George's family announces his passing on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 after stoically battling cancer for the past year. Born June 15, 1939 George lived his life fully with a passion and loyalty for his family and friends with an inexhaustible love of sports. He was one of the original organizers of the Halifax Polar Bear Club. He enjoyed running the Boston Marathon, sailing, fishing, and golf. He travelled all over Canada playing competitive handball. He became a devoted member of the Canada Games Centre where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow swimmers 7 days a week.
He was an active member of St. Lawrence Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years. He later served as head of the Property Maintenance Committee at St. Agnes Parish.
George was in the insurance business since 1963 and still had his license 2017.
He worked for New York Life Insurance and Canada Life for over 35 years. His present business recently transferred to Paul Lewis Grandville Group. He was recognized for the quality of his Life Underwriting. And he received numerous Quality Service Awards. Born in Halifax as the eldest child of Andrew and Blanche (Harris) Leitch he attended St. Patrick's High and St. Mary's University. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Rita Mulroney -Leitch, brother David(Judy), sisters Linda Jeffery -Leitch( Martin-deceased) Ottawa, Rita Coles(Rod) Australia, son Stephen, daughters Linda, and Lesley and their families; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by younger brother John William.
Heartfelt appreciation is extended to Dr. Cecil Kinley, Dr. Ravi Ramjeesingh, Dr. Dave Dupere, Dr. John Lecre and the Palliative Care Team including Cindy Bell RN and to VON Halifax, for their kind and exceptional support to George and his family.
Visitation will take place at JA Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 7-9 pm. service will be held Monday, April 3, 2017 at St. Agnes Church , Mumford Road, Halifax at 10 am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville following the reception. Family flowers only.
