

MILLER, Gerald Robert – of Halifax. We, the family of Gerald Robert Miller must announce with heavy hearts the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at home with his family by his side. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Robert and Florence (Carmichael) Miller. Dad was a veteran of the Second World War. He grew up in Halifax where he raised his 10 children. He retired from CN where he drove a truck for 28 years. He was a dedicated hockey dad spending many hours at the Centennial Arena. When he was not at the rink, he was at home cheering on his Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the President of the Sackville Legion Seniors Club and life member of the 50 + Club. Dad received many volunteer awards over the years, including Maritimer of The Week. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Rita (Delaney); daughters Barbara Willoughby, Bedford, Beverley (Will) White, Mount Uniacke, Deborah (Doug) Briand, Beaverbank, Patricia (Victor) Tanner, Sackville, Dawn (Keith) Simmons, Halifax; sons Robert (Deborah), Sackville, Kenneth (Winnie), Dartmouth, Gerald Jr. Dartmouth, Lloyd (Deborah), Sackville, Thomas (Dena), Hantsport. He is also survived by brother Robert, Sackville. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Dad was predeceased by his daughter Gail in infancy, brothers Edward and Lloyd, sisters Lillian and Laura. The family would like to thank Joan Nicks for always being there for mom. Also thanks to Layton from Always Home Care, the nurses from VON, and the doctors and nurses from Palliative Care for their caring and compassion for our father; and also to the people who brought us food over the last few days. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Wednesday, September 12th from 2-4 & 6-8pm, Legion Service, Branch #162 Lower Sackville at 6:00pm during visitation, with a memorial service on Thursday, September 13th at 11:00am held in the funeral home chapel.
