Gerald "Blair" Parsons

Gerald Blair Parsons was born on June 11, 1956, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The youngest child of Gerald and Mary Parsons, and brother to Bruce Parsons and Brenda (John) Cameron, he spent his childhood between Antigonish and Halifax. Blair attended Dalhousie University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Geology.

The years that followed were filled with work, sailing, co-owning a pig, inhaling great music, meticulously hand-kept box scores for every World Series game, and mastering the art of being an uncle. Yet all of these accomplishments are overshadowed by the good fortune of meeting and marrying the love of his life, Cindy Dorey. His life changed in the best possible way. Together they built a life and welcomed two children, Adam (Julia) and Anna, whom he loved beyond measure. Later came his beloved grandchildren, Brooks and Charlie, who brought him endless joy and gave him every excuse to continue embracing the playful, curious kid that had always lived within him.

Blair dedicated countless hours to coaching hockey, lacrosse, and basketball, and served for several years as President of the Northwest Lacrosse Association. He loved being near the ocean. He loved great music. He loved watching baseball. He loved cooking, spending time with friends, laughing, and sharing conversations that could last for hours.

In retirement, Blair found joy in traveling, exploring new places, and meeting new people along the way. Wherever he was, there was laughter, curiosity, and kindness. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, bringing with him a sense of fun, wonder, and the unmistakable feeling of home. As well as a dedicated father and grandfather, he was also the wonderfully silly uncle who delighted his five nieces and four nephews as children and was fortunate to enjoy their friendship as adults.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff of the QEII / Halifax Infirmary, including the teams on 6.4 CCU, 6.1 ICU, and Palliative Care, for their compassionate care and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home on Friday, August 21, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with remarks beginning at 5:15 p.m.
