August 16, 1950 – May 12, 2016
Ghislaine Doucette, mother, sister, wife, grandmother, and treasured friend passed away at the age of 65 after a brief battle with cancer.
As her family, we are heartbroken with her passing and we wish we could have had more time with her. We take comfort in the memories we have of her and feel blessed to have grown up in such a wonderful family.
Mom was born in Montreal, Quebec and was the daughter of the late Alphée and Madeleine (Frenette) Thibault. At a young age she moved to Halifax where she met many lifelong friends. She married Dad in 1970 and together they had 46 wonderful years together. They lived most of their married life in Sackville and Bedford where they had many friends and raised their family.
After graduating from Mount Saint Vincent University, Ghislaine worked at the Infirmary School of Nursing, before beginning her long career at the Victoria General Hospital where she retired in 2009 as the Manager of the Anatomical Pathology Lab.
She enjoyed many years at her beloved cottage on Sherbrooke Lake in New Ross. The family cottage played a central role in our lives; hosting family, friends and neighbours. She could usually be found enjoying the sun on the deck with a glass of wine, a good book, a game of Scrabble and friends. But, perhaps her favourite pastime was spent with her three grandchildren rarely missing a game, practice or concert.
Ghislaine is survived by her loving family including her husband Lawrence and two children, Christian Doucette (Karen), Halifax and Keith Doucette (Heather), Fall River, as well as her grandchildren Ryder, Carter and Marley. She is also survived by her sister Odette Feetham (Wayne), brother-in-law John Doucette (Cheryl) and several nieces and nephews. Beside her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Gabriel Thibault.
A celebration of life will be held in honour of Ghislaine at the Mapleview Common Room, 290 Larry Uteck Boulevard, Halifax between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday, May 21, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. We extend our sincerest thanks to Dr. Mulroy and Dr. Morzycki for their kind treatment of Mom over the past several months.
