Grace (Chute) Veino, wife of Edward Veino, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday March 23rd 2019. She was born in Halifax in 1938 to Oscar (Roy) Chute and Erna Chute. She spent her early years in Glace Bay, moving to Halifax in the mid-1940s where she has resided ever since. She completed her schooling in Halifax, entering Dalhousie in 1955 where she completed her BA in 1958 and her MSW Degree in 1960 from University of Kings College. In 1961 she married Edward Veino her life-long partner and from this union came their wonderful children Paul and Helen.
Her professional career began with the Halifax Children’s Aid Society, where she worked until 1963, leaving to raise her children. In 1979, she re-entered the work force, working at a variety of jobs until she took a permanent position in the Student Services Department of the Dartmouth School Board.
Grace and Ed had many interests. They travelled extensively and had many interesting experiences. One of the highlights being a trip to Africa in 2011 with a group from Plan Canada for the opening of a school of which they were a part. Grace was very active in her church, Bethany United, taking part in Sunday School, Choir, and Chairing Committees such as Local Outreach and Crafts at the fall fair.
Besides her husband, Grace is survived by her son Paul (Kim), Sister Jean Cassidy, and Grand Children Cory and Joshua Veino, Addie, Nicholas and Rosslyn Peill. She was predeceased by her Daughter Helen Peill (Peter).
Nanna was a loving Grandmother and enjoyed her Grand Children immensely. She was active in their lives as much as possible. Grace also had many other children over the years through her active involvement in the Foster Parent’s Plan organization and along with her husband was a champion of many other charitable causes. Grace and Edward, both staunch supporters of education for young people, were significant donors to causes promoting health and education for disadvantaged youth.
Grace will be missed by the many organizations she was associated with over the years, her Christian community and most of all her immediate family.
Visitation with Grace and her family will be held at Bethany United Church on Friday 29 March 2019 from 6:30 to 8:30. A Memorial Service will also be held at Bethany on Saturday 30 March 2019 at 2:00 pm officiated by Rev. Kevin Little. Cremation has taken place and burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that any donations can be made to The Melbea Foundation with Plan Canada, Veino Family Scholarship Fund with Phoenix Youth Programs in Halifax or a Charity of Choice.
